Abraham Lincoln beautifully constructed this short speech for the founding of the Gettysburg Military Cemetery. In it he says that we wouldn’t remember his small speech on that November day, but we remember the Gettysburg Address as one of the most important speeches ever spoken in American history. He explains why the soldiers gave their lives and why that is the most powerful devotion to their republic. He also reassures the entire nation that their freedom-loving union would not fall, but stay together. This speech will always be remembered in U.S. history.

I think every American should read it, or at least understand what it means. Lincoln was one of the greatest Presidents this country might have seen, how good, no one will know. That's why it's important for every American to understand what it means.

So short in terms of word length. But so long in terms of meaning and history.
